THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON LIVELIHOODS AND FOOD SECURITY IN ARMENIA

The purpose of the CLEAR study was to assess the impact of the climate change on livelihood and food security of rural and peri-urban population of the Republic of Armenia and to group and map settlements of the Republic of Armenia based on the level of the assessed impact.
Focusing basically on rural and peri-urban areas of Armenia, since these areas are more prone to climate change impact, the contextualized CLEAR methodology for Armenia was divided into four main components – 1) Livelihood zone mapping; 2) Resilience ranking of the zones and settlements; 3) Climate projections; 4) Mapping of climate change impact on livelihoods and food security.
The CLEAR analysis employed a mixed method of primary and secondary data collection and analysis. The methods applied included desk research and analysis of secondary data, focus group discussions, regional meetings and key informant interviews.
